Monaco
More actions
Monaco 2014 was the first arena introduced to the game and was available for the first time in the Closed Alpha. It is based on the real-life city-state of Monaco in the French Riviera. The arena is set on the Rock of Monaco and features historic landmarks, dense urban streets, and lush gardens and parks lining its cliffside edges.

Duck and Cover
The Duck and Cover variant features the arena's beloved mascot duck crashing into and flattening the Cathedral, creating a more open space in its place.
Strategy
With the Cathedral flattened, cashout stations will now spawn in the middle of a wide open space with little cover, making it significantly harder for the attacking team to secure the cashout. The defending team can exploit this by holding the high ground on the surrounding rooftops, giving them a clear line of sight over the entire area.
To overcome this, attackers can utilize cover creating gadgets, such as the Barricade, Dome Shield, or Goo Grenade to protect themselves while securing the cashout. Alternatively, they could use the Winch Claw to reposition it entirely, forcing the defending team to drop down to contest it directly.

Suspended Structures
Suspended Structures are a series of suspended platforms positioned high above the arena, where cashout stations consistently spawn. They are accessible via ziplines, jump pads, grappling hooks, or occasionally from nearby rooftops, making verticality and mobility tools key to contesting them. Suspended Structures appear above Royal Plaza, Forest, Pocket Park, and Cliffside.
Strategy
Defending teams will often destory the ziplines leading up to the structure to limit attacker access to the Cashout station. When this happens, attackers generally have two options: bring the Cashout station down to ground level, or use mobility tools to reach the structure directly.
The Cashout station can be brought down by strategically destroying the supporting structure beneath it. This can be achieved using explosives such as explosive canisters, RPGs, Thermal Bores, etc. Alternatively, attackers can use mobility gadgets like Ziplines, Jump Pads, or the Gateway to ascend to the platform and engage the defending team without destroying the structure beneath them.

Points of Interest
| Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Cathedral | The cathedral, based on the Cathedral of Our Lady Immaculate, is the central focal point of the arena. It features two stories, with spiral staircases at the north and south ends providing access between levels and ziplines allowing access to the roof. In the Duck and Cover variant, the cathedral is replaced with rubble. |
| Cliffside | Cliffside is the southwestern section of the arena. Guardrails line the cliff edge, though contestants need not worry about falling off, the arena boundary ensures they stay in play. The western portion contains a small garden, whilst the eastern portion has a small path leading through a rock tunnel on the side of the cliff. |
| Construction | Construction is located directly east of the cathedral, with a clearing between the two locations. The building has five stories, with access determined by a single staircase on the far east of the yard. A crane in the middle of the site provides a vantage point over a large portion of the arena. The yard sits lower than the surrounding areas, making it vulnerable to sightlines from above. |
| Forest | The Forest straddles the entire northern edge of the arena. It is a densely wooded area with a couple of small buildings. It sits lower than ground level, so the entire southern border has a large concrete wall separating it from the adjacent road, with staircases at the eastern, center, and western sections leading up to the road. The northern edge is lined with a low rock wall, though contestants need not worry about falling off, the arena boundary ensures they stay in play. |
| Hotels | The Hotels are a few large buildings on the western edge of the arena, with good sightlines over both Royal Plaza and Cliffside. |
| Park | The Park, based on the St. Martin Gardens, is a place of relative tranquility compared to the rest of the arena, containing multiple statues, gardens, and open spaces. It features 3D scanned assets of real life objects. |
| Pocket Park | Pocket Park is a small area on the eastern border of the arena, adjacent to the Residential District and Villas. It is split between a small storage area with shipping containers for cover and an open park with a fountain. It is surrounded on multiple sides by the map border and overlooked by the buildings of the neighboring districts. |
| Residential District | The Residential District borders the Shopping District and features a handful of large houses. A zipline connects the district directly to the Shopping District. |
| Royal Plaza | The Royal Plaza, based on the Place du Palais, is the most open area in the arena with long sightlines towards the Hotels & Shopping District. The plaza features cannons and raisable cover that can be toggled using nearby buttons, allowing defenders to control the center and flanks of the area. |
| Shopping District | The Shopping District occupies a central part of the arena and features various multi-story buildings and alleyways. A zipline connects the district directly to the Residential District. |
| Villas | The Villas are a handful of large buildings with access from the street. An alley runs behind these buildings below ground level, with a portion running underneath the adjacent road and leading to the park. The upper floors have good sightlines over the Construction area. |

Trivia
- An early version of Monaco was featured in the very first teaser trailer for THE FINALS published by Embark Studios on Twitter in November 2021.
- Whilst not in the playable boundary, both Port Hercule and The Oceanographic Museum are visible in the outer bounds of the arena.
- Prior to Season 8, Suspended Structures were small, easily collapsible platforms. Changes introduced in Season 8 expanded them into moderately sized, multi-story combat environments with significantly more structural support points.
- Monaco was one of two maps to originally receive Smooth Destruction at the launch of Season 9, alongside Fangwai City.
